Passengers are facing major delays across the Greater Anglia network this morning following reports of trespassers on the railway.

The incident happened at Goodmayes in east London, and mean all lines are currently blocked leading to widespread disruption.

Greater Anglia has advised that trains running through the area will be delayed or revised, with disruption expected until around 11.30am today (October 16).

A spokesperson for Greater Anglia said: "We have been made aware of a trespasser on the railway at Goodmayes.

"For safety reasons, the power in the overhead electric wires have been switched off and all lines are currently blocked."

Trains are currently unable to run between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield.

This has affected the following routes to and from London Liverpool Street:

  • Colchester Town
  • Clacton-on-Sea
  • Braintree
  • Southend Victoria
  • Ipswich
  • Norwich

Elizabeth line services are also impacted.

Network Rail response teams and the British Transport Police are attending the incident.

Passengers are advised to expect delays and may need to take alternative routes.

Greater Anglia tickets are being accepted on alternative services, including the Circle line between Liverpool Street and Tower Hill, the Jubilee line between Stratford and West Ham, and c2c services between Fenchurch Street, West Ham, and Southend Central.

The spokesperson added: "Trespassing on the railway is illegal and very dangerous.

"You could be taken to court and face a 1,000 fine."

Greater Anglia and Network Rail have apologised to passengers for the disruption.

Advance purchase ticket holders will be able to travel on earlier or later trains if their booked service is cancelled.

Passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more are encouraged to claim compensation through the Delay Repay scheme.
