A woman has completed a 10k swimming challenge after her friend and husband successfully battled cancer.
Amanda Eyre, 62, swam 10k during the month of November for the time ever, raising more than £1,600 for Cancer Research UK.
It's a charity close to her heart as her close friend recovers from cancer treatment and after her husband successfully battled bowel cancer a few years ago.
Amanda, from Earls Colne, said: “I like swimming, and I thought I would push myself to do that amount of swimming to raise some money – and that’s what I’ve done.
“I split the 10k into a certain amount of lengths, so I swam 666 lengths in the month.
“I feel so much better in myself and my health for it.”
Amanda embarked on the challenge at The Essex Golf and Country Club in Earls Colne where she lives, while her husband Mick supported her and helped run their shared company, A&H Build Clean specialists, based in Halstead.
By completing her challenge, she also hopes to raise more awareness for cancer.
“I would definitely urge anyone to go and have tests,” Amanda said.

“My husband went to the doctors for something completely unrelated and had an operation on his foot. After that, he didn’t feel very well.
“I said he was probably fine, but he said he’s going to get himself checked. They found out he had cancer that way.
“I do urge anyone just to go and get a test. If he’d listened to me, he might not be here, so it could’ve been a very different story.”
Mick battled cancer for six months during the pandemic, when he became the first person in England to have his cancer removed in an operation during lockdown.
Amanda said the staff at Colchester Hospital’s cancer ward were “absolutely brilliant” in their care of both her husband and friend.
“I want to say just a big thank you to everyone who has supported and donated,” she said.
“It’s been for a very good cause, so I’m so pleased I have done it.
“It’s always important to raise money for a good cause, especially things like Cancer Research.”
