A business in Halstead is spearheading its own poppy appeal, raising funds for the British Legion with hand-crafted flowers.
Sconch Yarn Shop opened in Halstead High Street earlier this year, stocking a range of yarn, patterns, notions, and books, as well as supplies for needlecraft, felting, spinning, weaving and yarn dyeing.
The business also offers classes covering knitting, crochet and other fibre arts for all skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced crafters as well as a variety of craft groups.
For the last six months, customers across Essex, Suffolk, and Hertfordshire have been crocheting and knitting poppies for "a very special" appeal organised by shop owner, Sam Conway.
Sam said: “It's been amazing to feel so at home in the community here in Halstead and beyond – after all, we've also had so many poppies posted to us from all over the country!
"At the last count, we had just over 1,000 poppies!"
On Saturday, the shop window was filled with the poppies, including 'giant' poppies as a centre-piece.
A number of the hand-crafted flowers have been crafted into broaches, and are available for purchase throughout November for a suggested minimum donation of £2.50.
Sam added: "I really hope that people will come and buy a special poppy, as all money raised will be donated straight to the Royal British Legion.
"From discreet, small poppies, to larger sparkly poppies, there are designs for everyone's tastes!”
Yarn and buttons have been donated from various suppliers, including Stylecraft, King Cole, Sirdar and Groves.
