HALSTEAD Town Council is looking for members of the community to help volunteer at the annual torchlight procession.
The torchlight procession has been running for many decades in Halstead and has become a traditional part of the lead-up to Christmas.
The event sees residents join in with a walk of the town’s high street, holding lit torches, typically followed by a carol service in Halstead’s Public Gardens.
Councillors from other parishes and towns are invited to join the procession and walk with the Halstead Town Councillors at the front of the procession, preceded by a band or bagpipes.
The event has become so big that for the last few years it has been necessary to implement a rolling road closure.
Staff and other volunteers ensure the safety of all those involved, with more demand for safety measures as attendee numbers grow.
The town council is appealing for members of Halstead’s community to support the event as volunteers.
A spokesman said: “We always need volunteers to act as Marshalls, as the event grows bigger every year,
“We believe we already have commitment from the Rugby club, BDC, and Halstead in Bloom, but we could do with some new marshalls.
“There will be more than 1,000 people at the event so all new volunteers will need to come for training to the Quens Hall on the evening before the event."
Halstead’s torchlight procession will take place on Wednesday, December 4, running from 6.30pm to 8pm.
Sarah asks that anybody interested in volunteering contacts her via email, at townclerk@halsteadtowncouncil.org.uk.
