Two great movies hit the Empire’s screen this coming week, kicking off with Pierrepoint (15), on Friday.
Albert Pierrepoint takes up the training for the job of hangman, and subsequently goes on to become his country’s official executioner, carrying out the death sentence for hundreds of criminals.
This is an intense, powerful and unexpectedly moving film, with an outstanding performance by Timothy Spall as the executioner struggling with his work, hanging some of the country’s most notorious murderers including Derek Bentley and Ruth Ellis, and the Nazi war criminals after the Nuremberg trials.
Doors open at 7.15pm for 7.45pm. All seats are £5.
The Wednesday matinee, on May 15, is Cats (PG).
This is the first ever film of an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical recorded live straight from the New London Theatre, Drury Lane.
Starring Elaine Page, John Mills and Ken Page, and based on the Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, Lloyd Webber oversaw the orchestration and called on Gillian Lynne as the choreographer.
The show is set amongst a larger than life junkyard, and includes poignant hit song Memory, sung by Elaine page.
Doors open at 2pm for 2.30pm, and all seats are £5.
Looking forward the the children’s half term holiday in May, there is the popular Toy Story series.
