A DRIVER has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a lorry overturned near a motorway in Essex.

The M11 has been partially closed northbound between junction five in Loughton and junction six for the M25 in Epping, due to the overturned lorry.

Emergency services including Essex Air Ambulance service and Essex Fire and Rescue remain on scene after being called shortly after 10am this morning.

The driver has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

There is a large amount of traffic on the motorway which is impacting the M25 junction.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We thank road users for their patience whilst we remain on scene."

The link road from the M25 anticlockwise to the M11 northbound is also closed.

Traffic is being diverted via the solid diamond diversion symbol and recommended to exit at junction four.

The diversion route is as follows:

  • From Redbridge roundabout A406/M11 junction 4 interchange follow the A406 (W) anti-clockwise west bound.
  • At the Waterworks A104 interchange, exit the A406 and take the 3rd exit to join the A104 Woodford New Road.
  • Follow the A104 north bound to the Wake Arms roundabout. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit on to the A121 Woodridden Hill.
  • At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A121 Honey Lane. At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the M25 junction 26 clockwise.
  • Follow the M25 clockwise from junction 26 to junction 27 and take the 1st exit to rejoin M11 at J6
