A DRUG driver who was more than 17 times the cocaine limit crashed into another car because he thought he spotted his friend whilst driving, a court heard.

Anthony Davies, of Hall Street in Rhos, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old admitted two counts of drug driving, which took place at Wrexham Road in Rhostyllen on September 8 last year.

Prosecutor Justin Espie told the court that on the day in question, Davies had been involved in a collision.

He'd struck a stationary car at a junction, the court heard.

In his evidential reading, it was revealed he had no less than 178 microgrammes of cocaine per litre of blood, the limit being 10.

He also had no less than 4.8 microgrammes of cannabis in a litre of blood; the limit for that drug being 2.

Mr Espie added Davies also had a "relevant previous conviction."

Ceri Lewis, defending, told the court: "Mr Davies has entered timely guilty pleas and was fully cooperative with officers at the roadside and in the police station.

"At the scene, he was more concerned about the driver of the other vehicle than himself.

"He wishes to apologise to the other driver.

Deputy District Judge Lee Davies handed down a £100 fine on each of the two drug-drive offences.

He also ordered the defendant to pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

The defendant was banned from driving for a period of three years.
