PLANS have been submitted to Braintree Council to install a heat pump intended to provide heating and hot water.

The application concerns Codham Carriage House in Wethersfield.

It was created by converting a former garage premises into a dwelling under a previous application.

The converted property has two electric boilers providing central heating via an under floor system on the ground floor.

At present, hot water is provided through a cylinder in the airing cupboard on the first floor.

Due to the high cost needed to run the electric boilers, the applicant decided to apply for the installation of an external located air source, high temperature, heat pump.

It is proposed there would be separate flow and return pipes running from the heat pump into the dwelling and connecting to the existing system.

Consideration was previously given to installing an oil fired boiler for the application’s intended purpose.

However, this idea was discarded as it would have involved inserting a flue through the external wall or the tiled roof.

Braintree Council will rule on the plans at a later date.
