A NEW warehouse could be coming to a Halstead industrial estate if plans are approved.

Alumasc Building Products is looking to build a new storage warehouse along with the creation of a new parking area on Bluebridge Industrial Estate.

The site is on Fourth Avenue, which is already home to a number of businesses.

Proposals for the new warehouse and parking would be in the north-west corner of the estate.

The warehouse is proposed on existing parking spaces while the creation of a new parking area to replace the bays that will be lost is proposed on a vacant piece of land to the north.

The warehouse will be “strategically adjacent to the route used by trucks to pick up and deliver goods”, and using an already flattened piece of land will considerably limit excavation work.

The plans also say the re-arrangement of the drainage water management will also benefit as the connections to the existing water main will be easier to set up.

As part of the design process, alternative locations were explored for the potential siting of the new warehouse building, including the lower car park area to the south-west.

However, this would not be possible due to the limitations it would have on HGV movements and resulting health and safety concerns, and the overall restrictions on the business operation.

Plans for the warehouse and parking went into Braintree Council earlier this year but were refused.

This was due to the development “reducing the openness of the character and appearance of the local area”.

The council also said the applicant “failed to provide sufficient information to demonstrate the proposed development would not be at risk of surface water flooding”.

The new proposal aims to re-locate the proposed warehouse to a different part of the site which would make the investment more sustainable both economically and environmentally.

The plans went before Halstead Town Council at its last meeting and received no objections.

Braintree Council will make the final decision on the new proposals.
