A man is being questioned on suspicion of going equipped to steal after balaclavas, wire cutters and latex gloves were seized from a car travelling with suspected cloned plates.

The suspicious items were seized after police searched the vehicle in Castle Hedingham yesterday evening.

Officers were on patrol on the A131, travelling towards High Garrett, when they identified a vehicle which was showing as using cloned number plates.

After a pursuit, the car was stopped in Nunnery Street, Castle Hedingham, shortly after 11pm.

A number of occupants got out of the vehicle and threats were made towards police officers.

A 21-year-old man, from Romford, was detained and remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of going equipped to steal, failing to stop when directed, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance.

Chief Inspector Ella Latham, of North LPA, said: “We work proactively to tackle burglary and theft, ensuring that we keep a close watch on our communities and act where suspicious circumstances arise.

“This response involved resources from several teams to ensure the pursuit was brought to a safe conclusion.”
