CONCERNS are being raised at Halstead becoming too overdeveloped after plans for more homes have been resubmitted.

Cabotlane Ltd wants permission to build a development of 39 new homes on land off Oak Road.

Plans were originally submitted to Braintree Council in 2021 and received many objections then.

The application was refused by Braintree Council in May last year.

Now, plans have been resubmitted, with the developers arguing that refusal would be “unreasonable”.

The application specifies Braintree Council being unable to show a five-year housing land supply, despite a case officer previously believing it could.

Developers also cited similar developments of 80 and 100 homes nearby which have been granted.

The 39 homes would be a mix of detached houses, semi-detached houses and flats.

However, since the resubmission, many residents are again objecting to the proposals.

A major concern raised is town services being unable to cope with an influx of new residents.

One objector said: “The only doctors in Halstead is already overwhelmed by the volume of patients, and this development would just add to the problem.

“Schools already have long waiting lists, and no new schools are planned to cope with the amount of development in Halstead.”

Another said schools are “full” and the only GP surgery is at “breaking point”.

“Halstead's infrastructure cannot sustain the impact of more people within the area”, they added.

A third objector said: “We have so many new houses developed already and the Halstead infrastructure is not coping at present due to the community growing so much.”

Other reasons residents are objecting to the plans include harm to wildlife and the location, claiming some who live nearby could lose their privacy.

One said: “The road is a single track road and at present is used by many walkers, dog walkers, cyclists and others.

“The proposed extension of the footpath would result in the destruction of many established trees and hedgerows which are home to many species of wildlife, such as birds and hedgehogs.”

Another, who lives near the site, added: “At least nine of the proposed dwellings, apart from the flats, would directly overlook my house and garden and would result in a major loss of my privacy.”

Braintree Council will rule on the proposals.
