A MUM has spoken of her “immense pride” as her young daughter enjoyed a haircut to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

Eight-year-old Lexi Groves, from Halstead, has cut her hair to raise money for the Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides free real hair wigs to children and young people up to 24 years old who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Mum Kelly said: “It started because there had already been a couple of girls in her school who had done it a couple of years ago.

“So, in the early part of last year, she was starting to grow her hair and then had the idea to do the same.

“I introduced her to why they were doing it and what the charity is and what it does and so she decided that is what she wanted to do to help.”

Lexi hadn’t had a haircut for about a year and a half.

The inspirational youngster had it trimmed for free at LushLash salon in Halstead, which kindly offered to cut Lexi’s hair free of charge as their way of contributing towards the fundraiser.

She donated about 11 inches of hair from the haircut.

Kelly said the real challenge actually came growing it out, with Lexi preferring to keep her hair shorter.

“She doesn’t actually like having it too long because it is quite curly”, she said.

“So, for her, it was definitely challenging growing it out and keeping it long and not having it cut sooner than she did.

“She is definitely loving the shorter hairstyle now.”

Lexi has also raised about £250 which will be going to the charity and helping towards the cost of making the wigs.

“She is really happy she has managed to raise this money to give to the charity”, Kelly said.

“For her, it is just a nice feeling to do something positive like this.

“And for us from a parental point of view, it is a really kind thing to do and we are immensely proud of her and her efforts.”
