Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious incident involving an aircraft. 

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the incident near the A134 at Pebmarsh at about 9.25am on Monday. 

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said crews from Sudbury are assisting colleagues from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service at the scene. 

A spokeswoman for Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to an incident on Pebmarsh Road in Halstead this morning at 9.22am.

"On arrival firefighters reported that a light aircraft was on fire.

"Firefighters from Colchester, Halstead and Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service worked to quickly extinguish the fire.

"The incident was handed over to the police."

It is not yet clear if the plane crashed. 

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We are on the scene of an incident involving a light aircraft in a field off Pebmarsh Road.

"Officers, alongside colleagues with the ambulance service and Essex Fire and Rescue Service, first responded to calls shortly before 9.30am this morning (Monday 21 August).

"Our response to this incident is ongoing.

"Anyone with information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

"Please quote incident 270 of 21 August."

The AAIB -  Air Accidents Investigation Branch - is set to investigate the incident. 

A spokesman said: “A light aircraft accident near Halstead, in Essex, was reported to the AAIB this morning and a team has been sent to the scene to investigate.”
