AN historic community event which dates all the way back to the 19th Century is back in an Essex village this weekend.

The Four Colnes Show is set to celebrate its 141st anniversary as it makes its grand return.

Founded by the Four Colnes Horticultural Society, the show was first organised in the same year the society was formed.

The Four Colnes Show has been happening off and on in the Colne Valley since around 1881.

The Show has often included outdoor sports and activities as well as the Horticultural Show, run by the Four Colnes Horticultural Society (FCHS), with its as near perfect as possible vegetables, fruit and flowers.

Four Colnes Horticultural Society secretary Sarah Adlem says the group is hoping the show will be a success once again.

On the day, the event is at the Earls Colne Recreation Club, and there will be plenty of fun and games for visitors to enjoy.

Earls Colne Recreational Club manager Sue Freear said: “We have been working in partnership with Percival and Company to bring the "outside" part of the event to the village so the society can concentrate on the indoor exhibition.

“We have many different arts, crafts, products and services attending as well as inflatables, bungee trampolines and Zorb balls to keep the children entertained.

“There are also a wide range of food stalls and a fully stocked licensed bar.”

Four Colnes Horticultural Society Secretary Sarah Adlem said: "The Rec club is a great venue for the show and is home to the Earls Colne Football, cricket & tennis clubs as well as numerous indoor sports including trampolining, table tennis, badminton & Squash."

She continued: "Earls Colne Recreation Club have been working in partnership with Percival and Company to bring the "outside" part of the event to the village so the the Society can concentrate on the indoor exhibition.

"We have many different arts, crafts, products and services attending as well as inflatables, bungee trampolines and Zorb balls to keep the children entertained.

"There are a wide range of food stalls and a fully stocked licensed bar.

"The Earls Colne WI and their Pop Up café ensure the local lovers of homemade cake are catered for, with tea and coffee of course.

"The Fun Dog Show is always a hit and will be held again this year weather permitting.

"In the evening from 7pm there will be further FREE entertainment with Live Rock Covers Band, ’Cakehole Mafia’."

This year, the show is set to take place on Saturday, August 19, from 11am.
