A VILLAGE post office is moving just doors away after its lease expired.  

Castle Hedingham Post Office, currently at 7 St James Street, is set to move into The Village Shop at 5 St James Street, just 20 metres away.

The already agreed plans will see the post office continue to be operated by the existing postmaster at the community-run shop.

The current branch will close on Thursday, July 20, at 1pm with the new branch opening on Monday, July 31, at 9am.

A Post Office spokesman said: "The lease for the current premises is due to expire and to safeguard services we consulted on the move to the nearby premises on the same road.

"There are two alternative branches for residents to use. They include Sible Hedingham Post Office on Swan Street, Sible Hedingham, and Halstead Post Office on High Street.

"The opening hours of the relocated post office will remain as Monday to Friday between 9am and 1pm.

"The same products and services will be available."
