A CELEBRATION worth douze points was held as Eurovision fever hit a Halstead care home.

Residents at Care UK’s Colne View, on Dame Mary Walk, spent the week preparing for the Eurovision Final on Saturday, with some special activities.

With a week of jam-packed themed activities, residents created banners to support the UK’s entry, Mae Muller, as well as taking part in a special Eurovision session with the Halstead Dementia Friendly Choir ahead of the home’s watch party.

Residents, along with members of the community, enjoyed singing Eurovision hits such as Bucks Fizz’s Making Your Mind Up and Congratulations by Cliff Richard at The Empire Theatre.

This continued with inspired karaoke back at the home while reminiscing on their own Eurovision memories from over the years.

Home manager Monica Boldeata said: “We always enjoy tuning into Eurovision at Colne View, and with this year’s competition taking place in the UK, we were keen to celebrate in style.

“The Dementia Friendly Choir, which was created by Colne View and The Empire Theatre, offered the perfect opportunity to belt out our favourite Eurovision hits – so much so that an impromptu karaoke session continued at the home after our outing.

“It was a tense evening as we watched the scores come in – we all had fun placing our bets on who we thought would win and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the show.”

The Dementia Friendly Choir takes place every Wednesday from 11am to 12.30pm at The Empire Theatre.
