HALSTEAD Day Centre was presented with money to help keep vital services running in the town.

The day centre provides independent living for people over 60 who are isolated.

It offers a friendly environment for people to socialise and be included in a range of low-intensity services that reduce isolation and encourage activities that promote, physical, mental and emotional well-being while maintaining a degree of independence in their own home for longer.

Jackie Pell, who is a trustee for the day centre, was on hand to present the cheque for £1,548 to the centre last week.

The money was a charitable donation collated at the events put on during the year by Halstead Town Council.

It was given to chairman of trustees Dorothy Lodge and Ve Harman at the centre.

Mrs Pell said: “I am really pleased. It is a great amount of money.

“It has taken them a long time to recover from Covid so the money will really help the centre.

“The money was mostly made through donations at the torchlight procession, but there were also kind donations at the Christmas light switch-on as well as the civic service.

“I must thank everyone who contributed, I know people are big supporters of the day centre.

“As for what the money may be used on, it is down for the day centre to decide, but it could just go towards the day-to-day running, anything and everything helps.

“I would also encourage anybody in need to go to the day centre, it is a great service and they can help.”
