THE owner of a new cat café coming to Halstead has said she is hoping to be open “by the end of the month”.

Rebecca White, from Halstead, is going to be bringing her new Meow Cat Café to the town.

The stay-at-home-mum has been working on the plans for some time and has now secured premises for her new business.

The café will be coming to the top of Halstead High Street, replacing the old Les Fleurs shop which closed down, between Crystal Healing and Costcutter.

Rebecca told the Gazette she was “very excited” to get the premises tied down.

She said: “I’m honestly still in awe that it’s all happening.

“There were two potential premises I was looking at but the one I’ve gone for just offers a lot more room for customers and the cats. It just needs a bit more work.

“I’d seen the sign in the window a few times and kept looking at it for a few weeks, then when I viewed it I knew it would be perfect.”

Rebecca, who is a mum-of-two with six pets, said she always wanted to work with animals.

She got the idea after visiting a cat café herself and realising there is nothing like it immediately in or around the Halstead area.

Cat cafés do what they say on the tin, serving up hot and cold drinks with bites to eat, all surrounded by four-legged furry friends.

They have had some criticism over whether cats should be in an environment with a constant stream of people.

However, Rebecca said she will be monitoring behavioural patterns in the felines and the business will have special safety measures in place to prevent escapes.

She added: “Next up is we need to renovate the building.

“There is a fair amount of work needed, however I’m still hoping to open by the end of this month.

“I’m hoping to have the keys by the end of this week so then I can get cracking.”
