HALSTEAD’S Community Fridge was given a generous grant to redevelop its building.

The fridge was awarded a grant of £1,000 from Eastlight Community Homes, which is set to go towards upgrades both in and outside of the Lodge Gate building on the Causeway, where it is based.

In a statement released by Halstead Town Council, it said: “On March 27, the community fridge was awarded a grant of £1000 from Eastlight Community Homes, in order to be able to repair and redecorate the building it is housed in which is nearly 200 years old.

“All the volunteers and the users are most grateful to Eastlight for the generous grant.”

The fridge was launched back in August 2018 to enable residents and businesses to share surplus food and for anyone to help themselves to quality food that would otherwise be wasted.

The fridge is open to everyone, and all food inside can be collected for free.
