HALSTEAD Town Council says it still needs more support as it pushes to ban parking in a congestion hotspot.
Drivers could be banned from parking outside Halstead Public Gardens in a bid to ease town centre traffic woes in the town.
Halstead Town Council has applied to the Local Highways Panel to introduce double yellow lines in Trinity Street by the park.
The spot is a popular parking place for drivers, especially when visiting the gardens.
In a town council meeting in January, proposals for double yellow lines received unanimous backing.
The council says the ban is necessary due to traffic issues on the road, with vehicles held up by parked cars.
That creates a bottleneck for heavy lorries travelling between Sudbury, Halstead and Braintree, causing gridlock.
Now, the council says it needs more support from residents who live or work in Trinity Street to push the bid through.
A spokesman said: “We have lots of support for preventing parking, from people living in Halstead and driving through and even from the two bus companies.
“However, the North Essex Parking Partnership has asked for support from those living and or working in the immediate vicinity, on Trinity Street.
“The town council has put letters through all the doors there, but no one has written to support the idea.”
Those wishing to voice their support should email townclerk@halsteadtowncouncil.org.uk.
