THREE years of work is set to come to fruition as a new set of electric vehicle charging points will be installed in Halstead.
The town council has expressed its delight as the charging points will be added to the Chapel Street car park, ready for use at the end of the month.
Work has already begun, after three years of effort by the council.
A spokesman said: “Halstead Town Council has finally reached the moment when it is ready to install EV charging points in Chapel Street car park.
“It has taken three years to reach this moment, as the land first had to be registered with the Land Registry and then a suitable provider had to be found.
“There were also many legal hoops to be jumped through, but now the day has come.
“Work has started in the car park to install the four charging points which will be up and running by the end of March.
“Those using the charging points will not be charged for their parking but will pay for the charge they take.
“Customers are asked to move their cars as soon as they have finished charging.
“Halstead Town Council is grateful for the cooperation of Instavolt who are installing and maintaining the charging points.
“Halstead Town Council also sees this as the first stage in establishing a wider network of charging points in the town, in order to attract passing traffic and to ensure that working charging points are always available.”
