HALSTEAD’S annual Christmas fair is set to return next week, as it continues to provide the community with free festive fun.

The fair has been running for more than a decade and has continued to get bigger and better each year.

A huge part of the community, it sees hundreds coming out to enjoy stalls and entertainment.

The fair is organised by Linda Smith, Heather Pittuck, Dave Rosoman and Andy Munday on behalf of Halstead Town Council.

Linda, who has been involved in the organisation of the fair for seven years, said: “We have more than 50 stalls this year, and so much to get involved with.

“There are crafts, photo booths, face painting and Santa will be there as well.

“It has always been a popular event and really well-attended, weather permitting.

“Last year the weather was awful, so we are hoping for better this time around.

“All the stalls always do really well, and they always look forward to coming back each year.”

Linda says the festive fair is an important event for the community.

She said: “I just think it gets everybody out and enjoying the festive season.

“We have so many things to enjoy at a variety of costs, so you can spend a pound on the tombola or raffle, or buy something nice for yourself or someone else at the stalls, it is all really affordable.

“It is also a great way to keep the kids entertained for next to nothing, with balloonists and circus acts throughout the day.

“The event is especially important in times when people may not be able to spend lots on days out.

“But you can come here, have a mooch around, enjoy everything that is on without having to spend money, which I think is really lovely.”

The event is in Market Hill and Weavers Court in Halstead, from 10am to 4pm, on Saturday, November 26.

Later on the same day, there is also the official Christmas lights switch-on, which will be performed by Halstead mayor Jackie Pell, with children from each of the three Halstead primary schools.

The free event will take place in Halstead Public Gardens at 4.30pm.
