A HALLOWEEN street display welcomed hundreds of visitors as it raised hundreds for a charity.

Dan Hawkins and his family have been turning their house in Cherry Tree Close in Halstead into a haunted mansion for the past five years.

The whole road typically comes together each year on Halloween night, becoming a popular attraction for the whole town to visit, with guests keen to enjoy the decorations and take photos when out trick-or-treating.

However, this year, they decided to add a charity bucket to their display, to get some extra funds for the town’s Halstead in Bloom group.

Dan said: “The whole road always comes together, we combine our spaces and make one big Halloween street.

“It wasn’t until last year when the road did a big display and someone asked if we had a charity bucket, so we decided to raise money for charity and give back to the community.

“We just thought it would be a nice idea and whatever we raised was great, we were very shocked with what people gave and how generous the community was.”

Dan and his neighbours come together each year to create a spooky street atmosphere for Halstead, including various decorations such as spiders, zombies, gravestones, and other Halloween items.

Some of which are also handmade, taking weeks to construct.

On the night, nearly £200 was raised for the In Bloom group, proving it was hugely popular with the community once again.

Dan said: “We chose Halstead In Bloom because of all the hard work they do, and people were really keen to donate.

“It was really amazing to see how the community came together and a massive thanks from all of our road to them.

“We always try and make it new and exciting, and everyone really enjoyed this year, it was so manic, we had about 200 guests which came along.

“It was such a big success, and we couldn’t be happier.”
