A WOMAN has been arrested following a series of alleged assaults in Halstead.

Essex Police arrested the suspect this morning, August 7, in connection with malicious communications, two common assaults, two cases of ABH, and an alleged assault on an emergency worker.

Officers received a call to Halstead shortly before midnight to reports of fight where two people had been punched and spat at, with one possibly suffering a broken nose.

The suspect was named, and police say checks found that she was wanted in connection with a malicious communications offence several months ago, when the alleged victim had received a series of concerning and threatening messages.

Last night, it is alleged that two victims had been spat at, scratched and punched repeatedly by the same suspect, resulting in a swollen eye and possibly a broken nose.

Upon police arrival, the female suspect also allegedly assaulted a police officer and then tried to spit at and bite them.

The woman was subsequently arrested by officers.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Often, members of the public are not aware of the initial circumstances as to why our officers are attending to begin with, the suspect’s previous record, or warning markers which are known to us, such as extreme violence and weapons.

“To passers-by, it may appear that an innocent person does not need to be handcuffed or restrained in the way that they are.

“However, these are all factors which impact on how officers deal with individuals.”

The female suspect remains in police custody and officers have confirmed she will be interviewed in relation to the allegations.
