A WATERSKIING youngster is taking part in a huge international sporting competition.

Seb Turp, 14, from Gosfield, is part of a talented group of young water skiers competing in Greece this week.

He and the rest of the GB contingent are competing at the Europe and Africa Youth Championships.

Seb will compete in slalom, tricks and jump, and his scores will go towards the GB team score.

There are five skiers competing in the under-14s and seven in the under-17s.

Medals will be awarded for each individual event, for the best three overall skiers, taking in their combined scores in slalom, tricks and jump, and for the top three teams.

Seb has two siblings who compete in older age categories for GB - sister Tilly, 19, and brother Ben, 21.

The Turps all train at the family site, Gosfield Lake, near Halstead.

It has been a busy year for the family, with Ben already taking part in the 2022 Waterski Pro Tour.

Back in May, he and eight fellow GB waterskiers were at the Swiss Pro Slalom in Clermont, Florida.

Whilst Ben only finished 20th, Team GB were still very successful in the competition, with Will Asher, 39, from Boston, Lincolnshire finishing second and Freddie Winter, 32, from Wandsworth, London, placed third.

Last month, both Ben and Seb were at a competition at Cirencester Water Ski Club in the Cotswolds.

Dubbed the "Ultimate Duel Waterski Battle", it featured some of the best slalom water skiers in the world.

However, for now it is all eyes on this week.

Seb is competing at Pamvotis Ski in the city of Ioannina in north west Greece, from Wednesday, August 3 to Sunday, August 7.
