Plans to develop land on the outskirts of Halstead are set to be reviewed for the third time by councillors.

Halstead Town Council is set to discuss plans for 73 homes in Mount Hill.

Developer Orchestra hopes to secure permission from Braintree Council to build homes on the land which sits between Halstead Hall care home and Blamsters Farm.

Originally, the plans were submitted in September 2020 and sought to build 130 homes on the site.

The move triggered opposition from residents as adjacent land on Mount Hill is already earmarked for 71 homes.

The 71 homes bid was granted by Braintree Council last year.

However, Orchestra have since revised the application to 73 homes.

Now Halstead Town Council is being called upon to have its say before the bid progresses to Braintree Council.

The town council has commented on the application twice previously.

In their first response, councillors objected to the bid in October 2020.

Objections included the site lying beyond the town boundary, the impact on services, flooding and traffic concerns, inadequate parking and loss of trees.

After the first revision of the plans, Halstead Town Council was asked to comment again in June 2021.

In its second comment, the council agreed to “repeat its previous objections from October 2020, but more forcefully.”

Halstead Town Council will issue a third comment at their town council meeting on Monday.

In a letter to Braintree Council, Savills, speaking on behalf of the developers, said the plans have responded to comments surrounding matters such as tree protection and parking and revised drawings over access have been submitted.

In response to the revised bid, the Halstead Rural and Greenstead Green Parish Council has said it does not object to the plans.
