CRICKET: Hadleigh & Thundersley recorded a convincing 150 run victory against Shenfield in the Premier Division of the Essex League.

After winning the toss, Hadleigh opted to bat first and were bowled out for 267.

Skipper Sam Handley top scored with 86 while Roy Smith made an impressive 79 before being run out.

However, Shenfield made just 119 in reply with Ishen Patel the pick of Hadleigh’s bowlers as he took four wickets for just 21 runs.

Handley and Adam Dobson also bagged two wickets each for a Hadleigh side who are now fifth in the table.

In Division One, there was success for Billericay who beat Wickford by 18 runs.

Billericay were put in to bat first and made 302/6.

David Houghton led the way with 111 not out while opener Grant Roelofsen hit 76.

Dean Etchells and Andrew Metcalfe both took two wickets each for Wickford who were then bowled out for 284.

Wickford starting their innings well with openers Huzaifa Umer (61) and Anthony McKenna (44) putting on 120 for the first wicket.

Adam Deller added 39 but Andy Smith (5-32) ensured Billericay came out on top.

Billericay are now fourth in the table with Wickford ninth.

In Division Two, there was a convincing 10 wicket win for Benfleet against Orsett & Thurrock.

Orsett batted first after winning the toss and made 159/9 in their 50 overs thanks to 84 from Mark Pavitt.

Fayaz Khan Nasseri (4/34) was the pick of Benfleet’s bowlers while Ross Casson also chipped in with 3/35 before Benfleet reached the required total without losing a single wicket.

Gavin Blowes hit 85 not out while Joe McIver was unbeaten on 45.

There was also success for Westcliff who beat Horndon by seven wickets.

Horndon were bowled out for 140 after being put into bat.

Adnan Khan (5-32) did well with the ball for Westcliff who made it home for the loss of just three wickets. Oliver Wagstaff top scored with 55.

Also in Division Two, Old Southendian & Southchurch beat Leigh by eight wickets.

Leigh made 132 in their innings with Matt Wagstaff scoring 37.

Dylan Batt and Henry Williams both took four wickets each for Old Southendian who then lost just two wickets in their own innings.

Ahsan Yousaf scored 61 and Max Craddock 58 not out.

In Division Three, Southend & EMT lost by five wickets at Walthamstow.
