COUNCIL bosses are set to have their say on plans to transform a former pub into cottages.
Halstead Town Council will meet on Valentine’s Day to discuss a planning application to develop the Griffin pub in Halstead.
The pub, which is on Parsonage Street, closed in 2020 as a result of the pandemic along with one of its sister pubs, the Three Horseshoes, in Fordham.
But the pub could be set to receive a new lease of life if its owners are granted permission by Braintree Council.
Developers are seeking permission to transform the Grade II listed building into two cottages.
There are also plans to build a pair of two-bedroom semi-detached houses in the former beer garden and parking area.
Existing access to the site from Parsonage Street would be retained.
Halstead Town Council will discuss the plans at a council meeting on February 14.
During the meeting, they will give their recommendation which will be taken into account by Braintree Council and influence the final decision.
