RESIDENTS are being told they must continue to wear face masks when in mid-Essex healthcare centres.

The Mid and South Essex Health and Care Partnership has given guidance to over the continued use of face masks.

It comes after the government announcement that, from today, face coverings will no longer be mandatory in public places.

However, despite the new government rules, the partnership says the UK Health Security Agency’s infection prevention control guidance remains in place.

This applies to all staff and patients.

It means residents must continue to wear face masks when visiting centres such as GP and dental practices, optometrists and pharmacies

The partnership says the move is needed to keep patients and staff safe and masks must be worn unless people are exempt.

Social distancing must also be exercised at all times.

Many GP practices will display posters at entrances to remind people that they need to wear a face covering, and the NHS said it will continue to support staff in ensuring that the guidance is followed in all healthcare locations.

GP Dr Anna Davey said: “Face coverings and social distancing measures will remain in place in line with current guidance across healthcare settings so that people can continue to safely attend healthcare settings for advice, care and treatment to help protect our staff and patients, particularly those who may be more vulnerable to infections.

“As restrictions are lifted in many places, everyone still has a part to play in helping to control the virus by getting vaccinated and acting responsibly.

“It is vital that in all healthcare settings we do all we can to reduce the risk of infection for those working in our services and those who need our care.”
