A busy stretch of the A12 was closed for more than an hour after a crash.
Essex Police has now confirmed the crash involved two cars and a lorry.
The A120 Coggeshall Road was shut in both directions for close to two hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.
The closure was in place between the A131 Braintree and B1024 Coggeshall.
AA Traffic reported there were long delays in both directions of upwards of 22 minutes.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called to reports of a collision on the A120 Coggeshall Road at around 1.20pm on Friday 21 January.
"Two cars and a lorry were involved.
"A road closure was in place near to the Hollies Road junction, but the road has now reopened."
