FIRE teams from across mid and north Essex were called to an industrial estate yesterday after a fire broke out at an industrial unit.

Teams of firefighters and specialist units were needed to tame the blaze at Cranham Road in Little Waltham.

Crews were called at 2.07pm on Monday, December 13 with teams coming from Chelmsford, Colchester, Witham, Wethersfield and Great Baddow.

Upon arrival, due to a lack of access to water, the specialist water bowser unit from Halstead was also called into action at the industrial site.

The water bowser is a specialist vehicle which can carry large amounts of water and is requested when access to water at the scene is limited.

The teams worked to extinguish the fire which burnt at the site measuring approximately 40 metres by 20 metres.

Station Manager Syd Barrett, Incident Commander, said: “Crews have worked extremely hard to surround this fire while preventing it from spreading.

“We have almost extinguished the fire and will remain at the scene to monitor any hot spots. We appreciate your patience while we deal with this incident.”

By 4.15pm, crews has all but extinguished the fire and remained in scene to dampen the site and monitor hotspots.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has said an investigations will take place to determine the cause of the fire.
