A WAR memorial is finally set to be repaired following the granting of fresh funding.
The Sturmer Cross war memorial in Sturmer is being repaired after funds came in from award-winning developer Hopkins Homes in partnership with the War Memorials Trust.
The news comes at the perfect time, as Remembrance Day is marked across the country.
The memorial is a granite Latin cross on a plinth, engraved with the names of men from Sturmer who died in the First World War.
After it was rated by War Memorials Online as being in poor condition, funding was set aside to help repair it.
Since 2017, Hopkins Homes has offered a £10,000 per year fund to support communities and parishes who have war memorials needing repair.
Joshua Hopkins, of the Hopkins Charitable Fund, said: “We’re so proud to be able to partner with War Memorials Trust, especially around Remembrance Day, to help preserve this powerful symbol which represents the sacrifice of so many from Sturmer.”
Sturmer Parish Council said: “Sturmer Parish Council is most grateful to Hopkins Homes for their generous support towards renovating the surround of Sturmer’s war memorial.”
