DRIVERS can expect delays and diversions when a major road closes this weekend.

Hedingham Road, in Halstead town centre, will shut to motorists on Sunday.

It is expected that the road will close for the whole day, forcing drivers to find a different route.

The road links the town to Halstead Road and the A1017 but is also home to a number of businesses and houses.

The closure will begin at the road’s busy junction with the top of Halstead High Street.

It is taking place so Anglian Water workers can carry out repairs to water pipes under the road.

A temporary diversion by Essex Highways advises drivers to use Hedingham Road, the A1017 and Mount Hill and vice versa in order to avoid the closure.

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “The closure is scheduled to commence on October 17 for one day.

“The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while pipe repair works are undertaken by Anglian Water.

“Access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure.”

The official diversion from Halstead is south towards Braintree on the A131 and then up the A1017 and through Gosfield.

There are also shorter local routes.
