A PRIMARY school says pupils are set to benefit after a introducing a new library facility.

Youngsters at Steeple Bumpstead Primary School are set to get more reading time as the school says its new library has doubled its capacity.

The new library has been welcomed by staff and pupils, with work on the new reading space completed over the summer holidays.

Headteacher Mary Nicholls said: “We have wanted a renovation of our library for the last couple of years.

“The previous space was a little cramped but the new open plan library is fantastic.

“It is a great way to promote our new English and literacy curriculum but also to showcase our huge love of reading throughout the school.

“The pupils were delighted when they saw it for the first time and it is also making a big difference to staff as well.”

Six pupils have been chosen as new school librarians.

Mrs Nicholls says the position is a good opportunity to give the pupils a sense of responsibility and ownership early on in their education.

She added: “The school has always been an important part of the local community and we would like to thank the generosity of parents who have donated books for the library.”
