THE number of patients with Covid-19 in Mid and South Essex Trust hospitals has risen over the last week.

The trust was caring for 66 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Tuesday – up from 52 on the same day the previous week, latest figures show.

But that was down 29 per cent four weeks ago when there were 93.

Across England there were 5,213 people in hospital with Covid as of October 12, with 657 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has decreased by 18 per cent in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 26 per cent.

The figures also show 66 new Covid patients were admitted to Mid and South Essex NHS Trust hospitals in the week to October 10 – up from 48 in the previous seven days.

The number of Covid patients at the East Suffolk and North Essex Trust, which runs Colchester and Ipswich hospitals, was 39 – up from 24 on the previous week.
