POLICE have raided a cannabis factory after tip-offs by the public.

Officers from Essex Police's north disruptor team swooped on a property off Laurence Avenue in Witham at 11.10am today.

An estimated 50-60 cannabis plants were seized.

No arrests were made.

Sgt Lee Palmer, who led today's raid, said: "I'd like to thank the members of the community who provided us with information about this particular site.

“Premises involved in the cultivation of cannabis pose a significant risk to those living nearby.

"Aside from the often unpleasant and anti-social odours, the electrical and hydroponic systems in use can present hazards that could put others at risk of harm.

"If you suspect drug dealing is happening within your neighbourhood, please report it to us so we can act."

Drugs can be reported by calling 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
