A SIBLING pair of water skiers return to action tomorrow after being picked for this year's world championships.

Ben and Tilly Turp, from Gosfield, are going for gold as part of a team for eight young British water skiers at the World Under 17 and Under 21s World Championship in America.

Ben, 20, recently picked up a silver medal with Team GB in the slalom events at the European Under 21 Championships at Seseña near Madrid in Spain, earlier this month.

During the championships, Ben appeared alongside his siblings, Tilly and Seb Turp.

Now Tilly and Ben are set to team up yet again with Ben also having taken part in the British National Championships, where he won the Under 21 men’s slalom title last week.

All in the squad will compete in the three separate events of slalom, jump and tricks.

Tilly will compete in both the under 17s and the under 21s.

The two Championships are being held consecutively with the Juniors getting underway on Sunday and the Under 21s on Wednesday, August 25.

The under 17s event should have taken place in 2020 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As a result, skiers who would have qualified by age had they taken place in 2020 are being allowed to compete and the event is officially the 2020 World Junior Championships.

Competition is taking place on man-made lakes at Pickos Ski School, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida and is being broadcast live by The Waterski Broadcasting Company.

Great Britain are the defending World Under 21 Champions with the team grabbing gold in Canada in 2019.

With the exception of Ben Turp, who was part of that victorious team, the 2021 GB squad consists of entirely new members.

Both Ben and Tilly train at Gosfield Lake with Ben acting as a trainer to his two younger siblings.

Waterskiing runs in the family's blooding with relatives competing for Team GB and some even grabbing medals.
