HISTORY buffs can look forward to a series of meetings to learn more about Halstead’s past.

Halstead and District Local History Society is reviving its monthly meetings.

The society plans to hold four meetings throughout the rest of 2021 which will talk about history in Halstead area.

Meetings are held at the Halstead Baptist Church on Hedingham Road and start at 7.30pm.

The first is being held on September 16 and will cover one day during the Battle of Britain on October 29, 1940.

Neil Wiffen will give an overview of the battle with a focus on one of the last days which saw a major attack on the North Weald Airfield.

On October 21, the society will be celebrating Suffolk women, and historian Sarah Doig will present stories about the county’s famous and not so well known women.

On November 18, there is a talk on 100 years of motorsport in Essex.

John Frankland will speak about venues used in motor racing from 1899.

On December 9, a festive event looks at old and new pictures of Halstead throughout the years.

There has been a 50 per cent reduction in society membership fees for anyone wishing to attend and existing members have had their 2021 fees waived.

New members will pay £8 per annum to join the society while it is free for under-30s.

For people just visiting, the cost is £5.
