MORE than £2,000 in grant money is set to be awarded to Halstead community groups.

Halstead Town Council met on Monday to discuss handing out grant money.

Groups across Halstead were given the chance to submit an application with the council drawing up a shortlist of just five.

With a total cash pot of £4,000, applicants submitted requests for a specific slice of the funding.

They also had to tell the council where and how the money would be spent.

Now Halstead Council has confirmed five groups have had their requests for funding approved.

In total, £2,350 will be distributed among Halstead Day Centre, the 5th Halstead Trinity Guides, Brownies and Rainbows, the Halstead Community Fridge, Halstead Rotary Club and Halstead and District Local History Society.

Town council chairman and mayor Mick Radley said: “I’m very pleased to confirm that the council approved the award of a total of £2,350 grants to support local organisations. This provides much needed funds to help them with the various initiatives they have planned.

“The members of these organisations work so hard to provide interest and pleasure to residents in Halstead and the council is very pleased to support them.

“Exceptionally, for this year only, the council agreed to accept a second tranche of applications for additional applicants.”
