A BUILDING society says it “isn’t going anywhere” and it is about “more than money”, following news of its town rival closing.

The Saffron Building Society, on the High Street in Halstead, has moved to reassure customers that it isn’t leaving town.

It comes after their High Street rivals Lloyds announced last week they would be closing down their Halstead branch.

It is part of a 44-branch closure by the banking group, which made the decision following “significantly” fewer transactions taking place in branches, mainly due to online banking.

As a result of the closure, the Saffron Building Society will become the last active financial institution in Halstead, along with the post office.

The town has already seen NatWest and HSBC branches leave.

But the Saffron Building Society says it intends to stay in the town.

Manager Amber Carr said: “It is sad news to hear of yet another bank pulling its branch from Halstead.

“At Saffron Building Society it’s more than money. We understand that some like to deal with people when it comes to their savings and discussing their financial situation.

“The Halstead team would therefore like to reassure our members, and the local community, that our branch remains in the town, providing the high levels of customer service you have come to expect.

“We are investing heavily in the support we offer at our branches too, including financial wellbeing calls with our expert, friendly team.

“Plus, our team are providing support for those in need, including vulnerable individuals, through our relationship with the onHand volunteering app.

“Now, more than ever, we understand the importance of our branch network and will continue to support our local communities.”
