A BIG-HEARTED school and its pupils have managed to raise nearly £2,000 for charity after banding together for a blue themed walk.

Children at the St John the Baptist primary school in Pebmarsh have gone the extra mile to raise cash for Water Aid.

Pupils took to the school's field for the three day event in an effort to raise funds for the charity with a walk.

The children could be seen dressed all in blue with non-uniform asking the pupils to show their support for Water Aid.

Pupils from age groups all over the school took part with an impressive 82 children taking part in the fundraiser.

Teacher were also taking part in marshalling the event.

Class bubbles walked around the schools grounds for an hour.

The school say some kids even danced their way around the field.

The fundraiser appealed for donations from family and friends of the Pebmarsh residents and was able to raise a staggering £1,803 for Water Aid.

The Walk for Water event, which ran from May 24 to May 26, was launched after the children learnt of the charity's emergency appeal.

Water Aid launched an appeal to get much-needed water supplies to thousands across India and South Asia, a region which has been devestated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

With elder children at the school completing 737 laps, lower juniors completing 549 laps and the infants completing 473 laps, the school has been able to calculate the distance cover by its pupils.

With one lap being 212 metres long and there being a total of 1759 laps, the children collectively covered a whopping 231 miles.

The school's Mrs Watkins also provided a Kylie Minogue sound track for the event.

St John the Baptist's Headteacher Susie Price said: “We are so grateful to all our Pebmarsh families and staff for supporting the children to raise a significant amount of money for a global cause.

"For a little school, it really does show that Pebmarsh has a big heart. An amazing £1803 was raised.”
