MORE than a quarter of people in Braintree have now received two doses of a Covid vaccine, figures reveal.

NHS data shows 34,046 people had had both jabs by May 2, equal to 29 per cent of those aged 16 and over.

Of those to have received both jabs, 31,614 were aged 45 and over – 43% of the age group.

It means 4,432 people aged between 16 to 44 have received both doses.

The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who had received at least one dose between different areas across Braintree.

Across Braintree, 67% of those aged 16 and over have had one jab.

Areas with the highest coverage:

1) Bures Hamlet, Maplestead & Belchamp, with 74% of people aged 16 and over given their first dose

2) Panfield, Finchingfield & Bardfield, 73.5%

3) Halstead East & Colnes, 73.4%

Areas with the lowest coverage:

1) Central Braintree, 58.3%

2) Braintree South, 59.7%

3) West Witham, 60.6%

Across England over 16 million people had received a second dose of the jab.
