AN excited golf club is celebrating after teeing off for the first time in months after reopening following lockdown.

Members of Gosfield Lake Golf Club, in Hall Drive, took to the fairways on Monday for the first round of golf this season.

It comes after new lockdown rules meant clubs could reopen from March 29.

The club says the course was fully booked for the whole day as avid golf fans looked forward to teeing off again.

Bosses at the club also met to mark the occasion with a round of golf and some Champagne.

A spokesman for the club said: “At 7 o’clock the members teed off for their first round of golf this season.

“All available spaces were booked for the whole day as members took advantage of the warm sunny weather.

“The courses have come out of the wet winter very well and the warmer weather will see the grass at its best. Competitions will start next weekend with all sections of the club playing.”

“Members were pleased to greet friends and playing partners after the loneliness of lockdown.

He added: “The nine o’clock fourball at Gosfield comprised club captain Gordon Dunn, president Derek Pryke, chairman Michael O’Shea and proprietor Ralph Rowe.

“They celebrated the opening of the courses with Champagne before all players hit decent drives down the first fairway, despite the lack of opportunity to play or practice.”
