THE SON of a notorious conspiracy theorist from Sussex has spoken out to warn the public against his mother’s “dangerous” ideas.

Kate Shemirani from East Sussex has become a leading voice in the UK conspiracy community, amassing tens of thousands of followers with baseless claims around coronavirus and vaccinations.

The 54-year-old former nurse has spoken at anti-lockdown protests and has denied the existence of coronavirus and blames its symptoms on 5G radio waves.

Ms Shemirani’s son, Sebastian, has said he is concerned that about the impact his mother’s claims could have on public health.

Sebastian told the BBC: “What she’s doing is dangerous. This is her five minutes of fame.

“I don’t want to be here talking about, you know, but it’s something I think we’ve got to do before these ideas get bigger and more people fall down the same route that she’s trying to take them down. You can only prevent it before it happens.”

Ms Shemirani, who describes herself as a “natural nurse as a toxic world”, was reportedly suspended by the Nursing and Midwifery Council in July 2020 because of her anti-vaccination stance and her views on Covid-19.

She has argued a coronavirus vaccine would be used as a political tool to gain access to and change people's DNA, has likened lockdown restrictions to the Holocaust, and said NHS nurses will “stand trial for genocide”.

The mother-of-four has almost 40,000 followers on Twitter.

Sebastian said: “Thousands of people are taking her to be this source of truth and this saint, and I was wish I could tell them all my mum is not the person that you think she is.”

“She’s someone with a massive amount of self-interest and loves being the centre of attention.”

The 21-year-old left home at 17 and described growing up with his mother’s conspiracy theories as “hell.”

Sebastian now only communicates with his mother via text after she came to view him as “part of the global plot.”

He told the BBC: “She sent me a text a couple of weeks ago saying ‘You need to listen to me. If you don’t, you and your sister are going to die. The CIA has a plot, half the UK’s population is going to be killed in five years’ “So I asked her, who benefits from this? No response, the rant continues.

“I think she’s too far gone to be helped. I’m never going to have a relationship with my mum again.”

The BBC approached Kate Shemirani for a response to her son’s claims.

She said in a statement: “From what I can see it would appear a ‘conspiracy theorist’ is now anyone who believes anything other than what your controllers want them to believe. I find this deeply disturbing.”
