UPDATE: As of 9pm, all roads had been fully reopened
A main road has been closed in both directions following a two car smash.
Emergency services were called to the junction of Smithills Dean Road and Scout Road in Bolton just before 7pm on Tuesday.
Police have closed the roads in all directions and are asking motorists to avoid the area.
The extent of the damage to the cars is not know, although images taken from the crash scene show one vehicle has mounted the curb and had possibly hit a tree.
Posting on Twitter, Greater Manchester Traffic Police said: "ME14 and XT14 are currently dealing with a two vehicle RTC on Smithills Dean Road/Scout Road Bolton.
"The road is closed in all directions.
"Please avoid the area."
It is not known if anyone was seriously injured in the crash but an ambulance was called to the scene.
