Officers investigating a suspicious incident in Highworth yesterday are urging members of the public to stop sharing images on social media of vehicles they believe were involved.

Shortly before 4pm yesterday, the police received a report of an incident near to the play park in Barra Close.

A nine-year-old boy with his friends saw three men got out of a silver vehicle nearby, which caused the child concern.

One of the men was ginger and had a beard and the other two had brown hair. The vehicle is believed to have been silver with black windows.

A police spokesman said: "There was no verbal communication or physical contact made between the men and the child and the child was not injured, but he has understandably been left shaken up."

Sgt Penny Sprawson added: “We understand that initial reports of this incident would have caused concern amongst the local community and as soon as the initial call was received officers were in attendance to conduct extensive searches.

“We are aware that a photo of a vehicle has been circulated widely on social media – enquiries have been carried out and this vehicle was not involved. Please refrain from sharing this wider as it is causing unnecessary distress.

“It is entirely possible that there is an innocent explanation to this entire incident, but due to the concerns from the children at the scene, we would like to bottom out what happened.”
