A LONG-STANDING shopping staple of Old Town has launched a new service to help customers who are self-isolating.

Blaylocks Shoes now does home visits to people in need of a new pair of footwear but cannot come to the shop in person.

The business is now in its fourth generation of family management and has been trading in Swindon for a century, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

It has taken this extra step to ensure elderly customers can get the footwear they need even if they are still uncertain about leaving home because of concerns about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

People can try on and buy shoes with the help of a shop assistant without going outside.

Manager Mark Blaylock said: “ I have found with the current situation going on that a lot of people don’t want to or can’t go out shopping.

“So if they can’t get to us, we will go to them.

“I have been to three home visits over the last couple of weeks and each one has been for different things but each one has been a pleasant experience for myself and the customer.

“The customers have been extremely grateful that I have taken the time to find out what they are after and to then pick the stock that will suit them best and to then take a range of styles for them to choose from.

“Although they couldn’t get to the shop they still had a good choice of footwear to choose from and they still get the level of service they would expect to get if they were in the shop.”

The team at Blaylocks are taking all necessary safety measures, both in store and during home visits, to keep their staff and customers as safe as possible in the current circumstances.

Masks and hand sanitiser available to customers when they enter the shop on Devizes Road and are supplied and used during all home visits.

Anyone interested should contact Blaylocks Shoes by phone or email, then explain what sort of footwear they are interested in and arrange a convenient time for a home visit.
