A THIRD and final mural to encourage safe Covid-19 practices has been completed.

The mural, at The Bullingdon in Cowley Road, follows earlier artworks in George Street and Manzil Way Gardens.

Oxford artists Eleanor Greenhalgh, Lisa Curtis and Sam Skinner started the mural on Saturday and were finished by Monday.

Commenting on their piece, the artists said: “We wanted to emphasise the importance of care and looking out for each other, as our best chance of fighting Covid.

“The community itself must be our protection. The phrase ‘you are my contingency’ flips the authoritative tone of usual Covid messaging and underlines vulnerability: we all ultimately rely on one another.”

The Bullingdon mural draws to a close the project, an initiative between Fusion Arts, an Oxford-based arts charity, and Oxford City Council.

Councillor Mary Clarkson, cabinet member for city centre, Covered Market and culture, said the murals add colour and vibrancy to some of the city’s busiest streets, while also providing an important public safety message.

She added: “The city council is a big supporter of Oxford’s artists. Alongside hiring artists to work in the Covered Market and elsewhere across the city, we also provide free walls for murals in South Park and in Between Towns Road.”

Kieran Cox, artistic director of Fusion Arts, said the murals reinforce the importance of community, thank key workers and tell the stay safe message.
