FIREFIGHTERS were called out after a telegraph pole was struck by lightning this afternoon.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service attended Robson Grove in Fairfield at around 2.15pm today, Thursday, after the pole was set on fire by the lightning strike.
Crews cordoned the area off and extinguished the blaze before reporting the issue to engineers.
A fire service spokesman said: “Firefighters were called to a fire involving a telegraph pole in Robson Grove.
“Crews put a cordon in place and alerted engineers.
“They used a small amount of water to put out the fire.
“A witness is believed to have said the telegraph pole had been struck by lightning.”
