AFTER a charity walk in aid of Prostate Cancer UK was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Warrington community came together to donate much-needed funds.

Martin McNicholas, originally from Latchford but now living in Chester, organised a gruelling charity walk from Chester to Warrington last year.

The 57-year-old was inspired to take on the challenge after his dad died from prostate cancer in 1998.

More than a year later, Martin's plans for another fundraiser have been put on hold, but organisations in Warrington have pulled together to raise £650 for the cause.

Martin explained: "The Irish Club based on Orford Lane held a ‘The Gathering’ event earlier this year.

"The day was full of entertainment with live music, Irish Dancers from Robinson Downey Academy of Irish Dance and raffle prizes.

"A fantastic total of £400 was raised for Prostate Cancer UK.

"A planned charity walk from Warrington Irish Club to Huddersfield Irish Club was due to take place in July, however this has been postpone until 2021.

"In addition to the kind donation from The Gathering, we also received a donation of £200 from Warrington Dominoes League who have chosen Prostate Cancer as one of four charities they have offered to support.

"A further £50 was raised through pin badge sales at the Kings Club in Latchford."

Warrington Conservative Club have also agreed to support and sell pin badges and any other venue that would like to sell pin badges can contact Martin on 07879485627 or martinmc77@hotmail.com.

"We really hope to build on our fantastic fundraising total of £11,400 in 2019," Martin added.
